Bond was set at $50,000 for a Chicago man charged with biting and and punching a police officer, prosecutors said Sunday.
Michael Applebee, 33, of the 2700 block of West Roosevelt, faces charges of felony aggravated battery of a police officer after the Aug. 16 incident at the O’Hare Blue Line Station, according to court records.
The incident began at about 11:30 p.m., when Applebee refused to leave the train, court records show. Police persuaded him to get off the train, and when he did, he “moved abnormally on the platform.”
A 52-year-old police officer tried to take control of Applebee, who punched him in the head, knocking his glasses off, according to court records. During the struggle, Applebee bit the police officer on the right side of his chest and right hand.
Another police officer at the scene subdued Applebee and took him into custody.
Judge James Brown set Applebee’s bail at $50,000 and he is next due in court Aug. 23 at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse.
