Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and Nobel winner, dies at 74 - Considered Ireland's greatest poet since William Butler Yeats, Heaney won the 1995 Nobel Prize for literature.

LONDON -- Seamus Heaney, the Nobel Prize-winning poet whose crystalline, descriptive verse led many to consider him the best Irish poet since Yeats, died Thursday. He was 74.

His death was confirmed by his publishers, Faber and Faber, which said that it could not "adequately express our profound sorrow at the loss of one of the world's greatest writers. His impact on literary culture is immeasurable."

The publishing house said in a statement issued on behalf of his family that Heaney died in a Dublin hospital after a short illness.

A 27-year-old Downers Grove man has been charged in the murder of his mother, who was found shot to death in the parking lot of a Burr Ridge church early Thursday.

Michael Zaky Bassaly was charged with first-degree murder in the death of 61-year-old Yvonne Zaky Bassaly, the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s office announced Thursday. He was expected to appear in court Friday.

CBS 2′s Susanna Song reports, according to police, the victim was inside or near a silver Cadillac in the lot of St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Burr Ridge when she was shot around 1 a.m. The one person with her called 911 and became a suspect.

The woman was later pronounced dead at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital.

“We believe this is an isolated incident, that the residents are safe,” Burr Ridge Deputy Police Chief Marc Loftus said.

As of late Thursday morning, police were calling the case a death investigation, but if it is classified as a homicide, it would be the first murder ever in Burr Ridge.

Four Blacks Injured When Three Crotch Rocket Motorcycles Crash On Lake Shore Drive Due To "Driving While Black"

Four people were injured early Friday during a chain motorcycle crash on Lake Shore Drive.

A colored motorcyclist lost control and crashed in the 1500 block of North Lake Shore Drive about 4 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said. Two other motorcycles then drove over the debris and crashed, Alfaro said.

Two males and two females were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with non life threatening injuries, Alfaro said. The southbound lanes of the Lake Shore Drive at North Avenue were reopened about 5:10 a.m. after being closed due to the crash.

Off-duty Chicago cop, out for a jog, victim of attempted rape: police

An off-duty female Chicago Police officer was the victim of an attempted criminal sexual assault Thursday afternoon on the Northwest Side, authorities said.

The officer fought off her attacker, who was described as a male Hispanic riding a bicycle, said police spokesman Adam Collins.

The officer, who was jogging between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. near Peterson and Pulaski, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Officers are searching for the attacker, Collins said.

Samuel Delbert Whitney (pictured), who passed away last month but whose funeral was held this past weekend leaves behind a population of children that could make up a tiny village: 54!  Whitney, who was 87-years-old, had children whose ages ranged from 69 all the way down to 13; he fathered the  youngest when he was 74. according to The Inqusitr.

In actuality, though, Lexi says that the number of brothers and sisters her dad created was closer to 53.

The women all decided to take on the arduous task of tracking down their siblings so that everyone could gather for their dad’s memorial service.

The women began their search not truly knowing how many children Whitney had actually fathered but were determined to seek them out by any means necessary. They flooded the South Phoenix area with posters containing information about their dad’s memorial service.

Rayvon "The Loser" Lollis, Ronnie "Anal" Ramsey and Sheldon "Korn On The" Cobb - Three accused of using real guns while filming rap video

Weapons charges have been filed against three men caught handling real guns while filming of a rap video on the South Side, according to police.

The three were among eight people arrested by police around 3 p.m. Tuesday in the 7400 block of South Eggleston Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood. The other five do not face felony charges.

Police said the group was filming a rap music video in the backyard of a home when officers made the arrests.

Rodney Ramsey, 22, of the 2600 block of 93rd Street in Crown Point, Ind., was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

Sheldon Cobb, 24, of the 500 block of Exchange Avenue in Calumet City, and Rayvon Lollis, 19, of the 2700 block of East Goodrich Avenue in Burnham, were each charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

The three are due in court today.

Chief Keef ordered to pay $230K for ditching show - Did he get delayed while Down-Lo'ing???

Chicago rapper Chief Keef's legal tab continues to grow, this time a judge ordered he pay a six-figure settlement.

The rapper and his label, Glory Boyz Entertainment, were ordered to pay $230,019 to Team Major, a Washington D.C.-based concert promotion company, for failing to appear at a scheduled show last winter, court records show.

Chief Keef was scheduled to perform in London on Dec. 29 last year, but according to court records, he never showed up. The venue was forced to issue refunds that totaled about $75,000.

The $230,019 Chief Keef and Glory Boyz were ordered to pay is intended to cover compensatory damages for out-of-pocket expenses, lost expected earnings and reputational harm.
