The man found dead Monday in a South Side trash can near a Safe Passage route was beaten to death, according to an autopsy.
The man, who is described as being in his 40s, has not yet been identified by the Cook Couny medical examiner's office, which released autopsy results Tuesday that said he died of multiple blunt force injuries after being beaten. The office ruled the death a homicide.
Streets and Sanitation workers workers found the body as they were collecting garbage around 10 a.m. Monday morning in the 700 block of West 61st Street in the Englewood neighborhood, according to police.
The body was discovered about a half-block from a Safe Passage route for children who attended the shuttered Bontemps Elementary School last year and have been transferred to Nicholson Technical Academy at 6006 S. Peoria St. about four blocks away.
Bontemps was among 47 schools that have been closed.
