A 64-year-old man who was awaiting sentencing after being convicted of murder last December was found dead Friday in his cell at Cook County Jail.
Percy Banks, who was awaiting sentencing on a 2007 murder was found unresponsive in his cell Friday afternoon, according to a press release from the Cook County Sheriff's office.
An autopsy by the Cook County medical examiner's office revealed Banks died of natural causes, the release said. Banks died of heart disease complicated by other natural causes, according to medical examiner's office.
Banks had been convicted of murder in December of 2012 for the death of Thomas Rogalski, 23.
Rogalski was found shot to death on July 19, 2007, inside his first floor one-bedroom unit on the 4600 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, police said the day his body was found.
Rogalski's father had discovered his body when he went to check on his son who had just moved into the apartment five months earlier.
