Rahm Emanuel's buddy & recently departed Chicago City Comptroller Amer Ahmed was indicted on corruption charges today related to his old job in the Ohio treasurer's office.
Ahmad, who abruptly left his City Hall job under Mayor Rahm Emanuel last month, is accused of taking part in a bribery and money-laundering scheme from January 2009 to January 2011. Ahmad came to Chicago to work for Emanuel after the mayor took office in May 2011.
Three others have been charged and two have pleaded guilty, according to federal prosecutors in Ohio.
As Ahmad left last month, Emanuel praised his job performance.
"Amer has played an integral role in my efforts to reform government, strengthen the city's finances, and professionalize our approach to fiscal management," Emanuel said in a statement. "He, managed the implementation of the city's first wellness program aimed at improving employee health while reducing taxpayer costs by millions, improved our collection process which held scofflaws accountable, in 2012 alone generating $70 million of much needed revenue, and has been a leading voice in the overall strategy of the City’s finances. While we are sad to see him leave our team, I thank Amer for his service to Chicago and wish him the best as he returns to the private sector."
